Garrison's SMS

So, you tried the SMS quiz yesterday? Want to know the secrets behind?

1. Choose a number between 1 to 9 (ie, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9).
[Let's choose 3]
2. Multiply this number by 2.
[3 × 2 = 6]
3. Add 5 to it.
[6 + 5 = 11]
4. Multiply another 50.
[11 × 50 = 550]
5. If your birthday had passed this year, add 1759, otherwise, add 1758.
[Assuming birthday passed, 550 + 1759 = 2309]
6. Finally, subtract the year that you are born with the number you obtained from Point 5 above.
[Assuming born in 1981, 2309 - 1981 = 328]

So, if the person is born in 1981, he's now 28 years old, which is true. First number chosen was also 3.

Amazing? Not really, now let's take a second look.

Assuming the number you chose is x.

So,

1. Choose a number between 1 to 9 (ie, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9).
[x]
2. Multiply this number by 2.
[2x]
3. Add 5 to it.
[2x + 5]
4. Multiply another 50.
[50(2x+5) = 100x + 250]
5. If your birthday had passed this year, add 1759, otherwise, add 1758.
[Assuming birthday has passed, {(100x + 250) + 1759} = 100x + 2009]
6. Finally, subtract the year that you are born with the number you obtained from Point 5 above.
[Assuming born in 1981, {(100x + 2009) - 1981} = 100x + 2009 - 1981]

Isn't it obvious that the equation will give you the hundredth place is x (first digit of your final answer), and 2009, which is this year, minus the year that you are born, which equates to your age?

Ha... Not so amazing after all!!!
